   This battery worked really well for my Canon Vixia R-400 camcorder. I was getting almost two hours on a charge, and best of all it is fully decoded (the battery talks to the camcorder) so I was able to tell how much charge I still have, and when the power is about to run out (in minutes). It functioned as well as the original battery but with more charge. I ended up selling the original battery because I was not using it anymore. The charger is nothing fancy but works well. While you can charge this battery using the camcorder, I generally used this charger to charge the battery, because it is so much more convenient. I rarely used the car adapter to charge, but it is nice to know that I have that option. I ended up using this battery for over two years with no problem, before selling my camcorder and buying a 4k model.So in conclusion, this is a great after market battery and charger combo. If you are hesitant about trying third party batteries, I would say that the technology is quite good now so there is no reason to fear. The saving over genuine Canon batteries can be $50-100 depending on the capacity of the battery you purchase. I have also tried other brands with great success. Just make sure that you are getting a “decoded” battery.One more thing. If you see a Genuine Canon battery that is priced very cheaply and is shipping from China, consider that it might be a counterfeit. So that is another reason to use 3rd party batteries. You might be already using it and not even know it.
