The charger charges the battery I already had, but the one that came with it doesn’t quite fit in my camera.I doubled-checked and it does say on the battery that it is indeed the correct replacement for the one I already have. Nevertheless, it doesn’t quite fit right. It seems to be just a hair or two too big. It won’t slide all the way in, so it’s not seated right and the camera won’t turn on.It’s not too big a deal, since I mainly just needed the charger, but a backup battery would have been nice.

This is small, inexpensive, and works. It is a fraction of the cost of a Cannon charger and a fraction of the cost of a battery. The battery took a charge and appears to last a long time in my camera. Nice that you can recharge a battery in a car, but I’ve not needed that. I now have the original Cannon battery that came with the camera and this new battery. Taking both with me I could shoot a ridiculously large number of pictures.

Me being me, I decided to open up the charger. For the price, I expected some sketchy stuff, but it’s all fine upon a cursory inspection. There’s decent isolation between the high voltage and low voltage sides, and it’s otherwise just a regular cheapo lithium battery charger based on an MC34063 and a TL431 (or off-brand equivalents). It doesn’t look like they cost engineered out many non-essential components, if any at all.The cigarette lighter cord is pretty good too. It has very thin wires, but it’s got a 2A fuse, so it’s very safe to use.The 2000mAh rating on the battery is laughable. I’d expect more like 600-700mAh given the price, which I would deem acceptable. It’s not as good as the genuine article, but it’ll do the job.
