It allows you to charge your still camera or video camera with a electrical outlet or even charge it through an outlet in your vehicle allowing you to never be without a charge. I bought this for my Sony Handycam whose charger I misplaced at some friend’s house. I’m sure I will find it one day when the camcorder is completely outdated. So the battery went dead and I had to either buy an orginal charger from Sony or some economical alternative that just worked. This charger suited my purpose so I ordered it from Amazon.The product arrived right on the day Amazon told it would. As soon as I got home and opened the package, I removed my Handycam battery, docked it with this charger and plugged it in. It also came with a car charger but I have not used it yet. The batter charged fully in three hours (after being completely dead for several weeks). I used it with my handy cam and it came to life with all its sounds and controls. I was very very happy to see that.Basically, this charger is a great deal (~$6 with shipping). Would highly recommend it as of today.
