   In a really short amount of time Llano has excelled in the rechargeable battery field. This, like their other models (of which I have two) has excellent build quality, and charges quickly. But I’m going to start with its flaws: it’s really, really big. Llano chargers tend to be bulky, but the NP-FW50 is twice the size of its siblings. NP-FW50s are one of Sony’s smallest batteries, which makes the enlarged case feel like a burden. Part of the reason for its size is the built-in battery. You don’t have to worry about plugging it in to charge in the field; it can charge up eight– yes eight– NP-FW50s from the internal battery. The reason to get this unit rather than a smaller, lighter version is the battery. The other shortcoming is the way it batteries sit in the case. There’s a spring in the bottom, so for some of my batteries you need to close the case lid to get them to connect. Some of my other batteries, however, are ever-so-slightly larger. They slide down snuggly without the lid… but then are difficult to get out. And I’m honestly not that fond of the LCD screen. It’s bright and clear but only shows the internal battery percentage; the NP-FW50s meter is the simply four-bar indicator. Other Llano chargers show the percentage of the charging battery. All in all, I’m a fan of Llano. I own two other versions of their chargers and several of the batteries, and they all work flawlessly. The design on this unit isn’t as polished and thought-out, but if really want your charger to be your power supply as well, it may be your best choice right now.

   With a high capacity, fast charging speed, and added use as a battery bank for other devices, this charger is a great value for the price. It is well made, works well, and is fairly compact considering the battery capacity.The display is nice because you can easily see the remaining power in the chargers battery pack, as well as in any batteries being charged.
