   I have a MAHA MH-C401FS charger but it only charges AA/AAA batteries, so when I needed to charge C/D batteries, I did some research and decided to buy this Maximal Power model.This charger is very fast. It also doesn’t make the batteries hot (EDIT: I think I spoke too soon because one of my Energizer AA NiMH batteries just made a “pss” sound, which means it is venting gas because it is too hot. I will update if this becomes a problem. The AAs I’ve been charging are mostly MAHA Imedions, which remain cool), which I like VERY much because heat destroys batteries but something tells me that this comes at the expense of a full charge. Now I don’t really care if a battery is 90% charged vs. 100% charged but that might matter to some people, so if that is important to you, I recommend looking into that further. I prefer that my batteries last longer, so this is a major plus.But here is why this can’t be your only charger. If your batteries are worn down too low, the LED indicator will either flash red (it normally lights a steady red for charging) or light up green (indicating that it is done). If that happens, I just put them in my MAHA charger, and everything is fine. They need to tune the unit to try to charge a battery before rejecting it so soon. I also have this problem with my La Crosse BC-900.Another problem I had once was that it finished charging a D-sized NiMH battery too soon, so I pulled the battery out and put it back in, and then everything was fine. It might have detected a false negative deltaV. This has also happened on my MAHA charger before.This charger also does not allow you to discharge your NiMH batteries either (periodically necessary to ensure maximum capacity). The NiCd mode will perform a discharge before a charge but I don’t know if the negative deltaV value for that mode is different (this could lead to overcharging of NiMH batteries). I also wish that the discharge would be optional but I don’t charge NiCd batteries, so it doesn’t matter to me. They claim it is for reducing the memory effect but I think the idea of battery memory is widely misunderstood. You can Google that topic if you’re curious.A minor issue I have with the positioning of the batteries is that I wish that the batteries would be placed in the opposite direction with the positive end on top. That’s the way all my other chargers are.For a quarter of a hundred dollars, this charger is great but I don’t know if I could trust it for important work such as recharging my camera flash batteries for a photo session. For toys or a baby swing, no problem. For better quality, I recommend looking at MAHA units.
